If You Got It . . .

THE PREMISE: One-Year Anniversary Party for Flaunt magazine at the Sunset Room.

REALITY: Judging by the line of groovers that forms well before the 9 p.m. call time, this celebration of the avant-glossy fashion mag started by Luis Barajas, after defecting from his previous creation, Detour, is cashing in on some major buzz. “It’s a little bit crazy out there,” says Rachel Hunter, elbowing her way to the VIP zone. Hunter is flaunting her new movie, “MacArthur Park,” while the producer, Billy Wirth, works the crowd of celebrities, execs, drag queens and club kids trying to scare up the ducats to finish it. Others with more modest agendas pour through the maze of rooms, sampling cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and PlayStation games. By the time “Buffy” sidekick Alyson Hannigan arrives, the situation outside is, she reports, “nightmarish. The valet people were turning everybody away. I’m like, ‘Uh-oh, lots of people. We can go home now.’ ” But she doesn’t, and neither does “Scream’s” Matthew Lillard, who observes: “Once you’re here, you realize there are a bunch of people you know, so you end up, eventually, having interesting conversations. The real challenge is to stay long enough.”

I’M ON THE LIST: “I actually don’t go out very often,” says Kathleen Robertson, February’s Flaunt Girl and formerly of “Beverly Hills, 90210.” “The reason I came was that I’m really into photography, and it’s a gorgeous magazine and I wanted to support it.” Other Flaunt Girls are equally passionate. “I’m a really tremendously huge Flaunt fan, and I thought it would be a really fun party,” gushes Brittany Murphy of “Girl, Interrupted,” who’s still experiencing the initial giddy rush of the Hollywood whirl. “And I thought the gift bags would be incredible.” (They’re not too bad, actually, no nonutilitarian promo material.) The weekend shindig also draws Edward Norton (no photographs, please), Leonardo DiCaprio (ditto) and Sean Penn (!). Oddly, with the exception of Leelee Sobieski and Salma Hayek, none of the supposed celebrity hosts (and Flaunt cover models) show. “Salma Hayek, she’s pretty much the only person I wanted to meet,” says “ER” rookie Erik Palladino. “But she got up, gave me a quick look and walked out. Damn.”

What’s the Score?

CELEB QUOTIENT: Promised-but-not-delivered Drew Barrymore, Julianne Moore, Courtney Love, et al, mar an otherwise righteous turnout. ***

WOW FACTOR: The churning mass of hipoisie turns generic live music, Sony PlayStation games and an elegant, mazelike venue into a high-wattage blowout. ***

CHOW LINE: The liquid flowed all night, but good luck scoring an hors d’oeuvre after 10 p.m. **
