Opportunities for Volunteering

The Child and Family Guidance Center needs volunteers to plan a golf tournament scheduled for June 19 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village. Participants will help with sponsorships, a silent auction, a tribute book, an awards banquet and public relations. There will be monthly evening meetings at the guidance center at 9650 Zelzah Ave., Northridge. The Los Angeles County Probation Department’s Operation Read program needs tutors for delinquent, abused and neglected youths. Participants help kids during weekday afternoons and on weekends at the Challenger Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster. Hours are flexible. Jewish Family Services’ Family Friends Project needs mentors for kids with special needs. Participants volunteer two to four hours a week. Jewish Family Services also needs people to work one-on-one with the elderly at its Valley Storefront Multi-Service Center for Seniors at 12821 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood. Burbank’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program is seeking a volunteer age 55 or older for the city’s building division front office. The volunteer will answer phones and take inspection requests. Hours are Monday through Friday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Call Dee Call at (818) 238-5370.
