The Child and Family Guidance Center needs volunteers to plan a golf tournament scheduled for June 19 at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village. Participants will help with sponsorships, a silent auction, a tribute book, an awards banquet and public relations. There will be monthly evening meetings at the guidance center at 9650 Zelzah Ave., Northridge. The Los Angeles County Probation Department’s Operation Read program needs tutors for delinquent, abused and neglected youths. Participants help kids during weekday afternoons and on weekends at the Challenger Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster. Hours are flexible. There will be a training seminar Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lancaster Library, 601 W. Lancaster Blvd. Call the program’s coordinator, Deberae Culpepper at (661) 951-1540.

Temple Judea needs volunteers for its English as a second language program. Training will take place at the temple, 5429 Lindley Ave., Tarzana. Hours are flexible and the average class size is four to six students. For more information, call (818) 758-3800.

The Valley Trauma Center needs volunteers, especially Spanish speakers, to help sexual assault survivors. The trauma center has locations in Northridge and Santa Clarita. Sixty hours of training begins in February. For an application, call (818) 772-0196 or (661) 253-1772.

Jewish Family Services’ Family Friends Project needs mentors for kids with special needs. Participants volunteer two to four hours a week. Jewish Family Services also needs people to work one-on-one with the elderly at its Valley Storefront Multi-Service Center for Seniors at 12821 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood. Burbank’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program is seeking a volunteer age 55 or older for the city’s building division front office. The volunteer will answer phones and take inspection requests. Hours are Monday through Friday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Call Dee Call at (818) 238-5370.

Jewish Vocational Services’ Hot Connections program is seeking professionals to share information and contacts with people interested in their fields; for two hours during a three-month period. Call Jeanie Gaynor at (323) 761-8888, Ext. 122.

The American Red Cross is seeking volunteers for its Youth in Action team. About 100 young people belong to the team, which does community service work, such as cleaning up beaches, beautifying neighborhoods and feeding the homeless. Call Leslie Borja at (213) 739-5274.
