Neglect of Asians

Many kudos to Tom Plate for a truly global perspective (“List of ‘Top 100’ Should Include Many More Asians,” Commentary, Jan. 12). Thanks to Plate, most Times readers have learned of Asia’s first Nobel Prize winner, Rabindranath Tagore, who wrote more songs that are still sung today than anyone in the world, including the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.
The point Plate makes about President Bill Clinton not finding a single Asian capable of serving in his Cabinet is a cruel reminder of this cultural tragedy in the U.S.
