After the 57-acre site is developed, the only thing commemorating Chevron Corp’s. long history in the city may be a simple plaque. Chevron, one of La Habra’s oldest and largest employers, completed escrow in December with Interstate Consolidated Industries, a Santa Ana-based development company. The Orange County Historical Commission recently voted to name the Chevron land a historic landmark. The land that housed La Habra’s once-prolific oil industry of the 1890s may be converted into office space or a shopping center, said Scott Bell, ICI’s president. The land, which includes eight office buildings built between 1948 and 1982, is zoned for commercial use and may be used for retail or office development. City officials said a mall would create jobs and boost the city’s economy.
