The modest homes of West Irvine may soon be joined by one of the city’s largest gated apartment properties, which will boast two junior Olympic-sized pools and a fitness center.

Tonight the Community Services Commission will rule on the location, size and amenities of Marketplace Apartments, the first apartment property planned for West Irvine village.

The Irvine Co. proposal is for 736 apartments and three private neighborhood parks on the corner of Irvine Boulevard and Market Drive. The 26 apartment buildings proposed for the site would make Marketplace Apartments one of the city’s largest apartment properties.

The two recreational parks, which would each feature a junior Olympic pool and spa, would sit on opposite sides of the apartment property.

The larger park, at just under an acre, would also have a fitness center and multipurpose room.

The Community Services Commission meets 6:30 tonight at City Hall, 1 Civic Center Plaza.
