Your Jan. 14 editorial regarding the need to provide improved funding and attention to military personnel, especially enlisted members, contained the key word to this problem: priorities.

The enormous defense budgets are adequate, but allocations appeared to be skewed in favor of big-ticket weapon systems that will be worthless if the armed services can’t attract and retain the caliber of people required to run them.
