Fullerton’s Late Run Stops Irvine Valley
Fullerton used a 13-0 run in the final three minutes to beat visiting Irvine Valley, 75-65, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball game Friday.
Irvine Valley took a 63-62 lead when Mike Ahmad (21 points) made two free throws with 3 minutes 10 seconds left. But Fullerton scored the next 13 points, including seven from Todd Jones, who also had two key assists. Jones passed to Charles Mann (15 points) for a three-pointer that put the Hornets up, 69-63, with 1:34 left.
Shelton Wise added 15 points and B.J. Smith had eight points and nine rebounds for Fullerton (14-9, 4-2), which has won four in a row.
In another men’s game:
Cypress 88, Santa Ana 83--Tony Jimmerson scored 22 points and Meko Parker added 20 for visiting Cypress (11-12, 4-2), which moved into a second-place tie with Fullerton, Saddleback and Santa Ana (18-5, 4-2).
Cypress outscored Santa Ana, 54-41, in the second half.
