Dallas M. Jackson, 47, graphics director for Variety and Daily Variety’s Special Report who formerly worked at the Los Angeles Times. Born and raised in San Jose, Jackson graduated from UC San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in English and education. She pursued postgraduate studies in radio and television at USC. She worked at The Times for 14 years in various capacities, including graphics researcher and writer for the Los Angeles and Orange County Business sections. From The Times, she moved to the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she was a police and court editor. She started working for Variety in 1997. A member of the National Assn. of Black Journalists, Jackson was writing and producing a documentary on her favorite musical group, the Temptations, at the time of her death. A memorial service is being planned. The family asks that any donations be sent in memory of Dallas M. Jackson to the Sickle Cell Disease Assn. of America, 200 Corporate Point, Suite 495, Culver City, CA. 90230-8727. On Sunday in Pasadena; the cause of death was not announced.
