Re “Challenging Us to Be Honest About War, at Last,” Commentary, Jan. 24: To blame Sen. John McCain for the misguided aims of a Democratic White House during the beginning of the Vietnam War brings to mind the phrase, “Don’t shoot the messenger.” As far as his illegally taping political ads at Arlington National Cemetery, why should Norman Solomon care enough to write about that? Obviously it’s not the sort of place he would care to visit or even respect. McCain and those who served beside him deserve our respect and our gratitude.
