As part of the school’s Millennium Reading Celebration, students at Brookhaven Elementary will go to class today in their pajamas, and Principal Sharon Jackson will sit on the roof wearing an M&M; costume

Brookhaven’s 461 students have read 41,345 books since September, exceeding Jackson’s challenge of 35,000. First-grade teacher Kim Thorp said the school’s original goal was 14,000 books, but when students met that goal in November, the principal called on them to more than double the feat. Today’s celebration will include a lunchtime feast of ice cream topped in the popular hard-coated chocolate candy.
