Regarding Jan Buchwald Millard’s letter last Sunday: I don’t know where in Britain her husband is from, but as a native Brit who has lived in Ireland, England and Scotland, I can assure you that “well chuffed” has always meant to be very pleased with yourself. We have several colourful sayings for being really angry, but “well chuffed” isn’t one of them!
