Quackenbush
* I take no pleasure in the disgrace of the just-resigned insurance commissioner, Chuck Quackenbush (June 29). This is an almost epic tragedy for all concerned--except for the insurance companies whose servant Quackenbush has always been. I hope that the Legislature has the courage to nail them for their central part in this. Hope springs eternal, as they say, and so does the money paid by big business for legislative quiescence.
Our society needs to decide whether we want to be a democracy or a corporate state. I have to ask those who twice voted for this industry shill if they are truly surprised by what has developed. Maybe they should channel their outrage to address the consequences of voter ignorance.

It must be great not to help the people of California and receive a pension for doing it. The Legislature should work on a law that if a person resigns for any kind of wrongdoing or not doing his job and this can be proved, that person should have to give up all pensions and benefits. Quackenbush should have to give up his pension for not doing his job. I hope the new commissioner will do what Quackenbush did not do and help the people of Northridge.
