Valerie S. Gonzalez, a certified nurse assistant, died Friday in a local hospital as a result of injuries received in an auto accident. She was 46.

A lifelong resident of Ventura, she was born Aug. 9, 1953 and attended local schools.

Gonzalez was a certified nurse assistant for 12 years, working for Community Memorial Hospital, Kimberly Quality Care and most recently for Meditech Home Health Care.

She was a member of the Saticoy Sanitation Committee and worked several years at Saticoy Youth Recreation. She helped establish the Toys for Tots program in Saticoy and was instrumental in the building of the Saticoy playground.

She was also proud of her Chumash heritage.

She is survived by her husband, Arturo, of Saticoy; sons Arturo Jr. of Oceanside and Andrew of Saticoy; daughter Arlene Macias of Santa Paula; mother Angelina Sandoval of Saticoy; brothers Gregory Sandoval Jr. and Cliff Sandoval of Saticoy; sisters Teresa Garcia of Ventura, Mary Mendoza of Saticoy and Lorraine Prado of Ventura; and three grandchildren.

A memorial Mass is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura with the Rev. John Higgins officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund for Andrew Gonzalez, c/o the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
