Road Resurfacing Work Is Underway

More than 100 streets will be repaired over the next couple of months as the city spends $3.4 million on improvements.

Work began in Newbury Park last month and will continue in Thousand Oaks and Westlake through mid-August, said Joe Bravo, project manager for street improvements.

The repairs are part of a city maintenance plan that calls for resurfacing of streets on a regular basis, said Public Works Director Don Nelson.

Every five years a consultant evaluates the roads and gives each one a rating based on how the street holds up to various tests. The last time the consultant studied city streets was three years ago.

Repairs are made during the summer when schools are out to minimize disruption to motorists.

“One of the things people expect from this city are smooth roadways,” Mayor Dennis Gillette said. “It’s a lot easier on the front of the car too. The city has done an exceptional job over the last few years of taking care of the roads.”
