State Funds Sought for Youth Athletics Field
Youngsters in the northwest part of the city should get a new athletics field as part of the new California state budget, officials said Wednesday.
Assemblyman Jack Scott (D-Altadena) requested $150,000 to turn unused space on the campus of Washington Middle School into a field, according to a press release from his office. Gov. Gray Davis signed the request Wednesday as part of an education trailer to the budget.
The field will be mixed-use for numerous youth groups, including baseball, soccer and softball leagues. The total cost will be $180,000, the release said.
