$525,000 Plan Approved for Refurbishing Belmont Pier
The state Coastal Conservancy has approved $525,000 to help refurbish the Belmont Pier, resurface the adjacent parking lot and provide better access to the pier for the disabled.
“A restored Belmont Pier will become a focal point for community activities on the Long Beach shore,” said state Sen. Betty Karnette (D-Long Beach). “It will be a boon for the city’s residents and attract visitors who will contribute to the local economy.”
The 1,620-foot-long pier was built in 1966 in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach. It is part of the Belmont Pier Plaza, which includes a parking lot, the beach and the Belmont Plaza Pool.
Plans for the restoration call for improved lighting, a new snack bar, a bait shop, fishing bays that extend over the water, landscaping and wheelchair access ramps from the parking lot to the pier. Construction, which will be phased in over seven years, is scheduled to begin in September.
