Jennifer Azzi played in her first regular-season game for Utah after suffering a broken hand during an exhibition game, but the Starzz lost to the Detroit Shock, 73-69, Friday night before 7,649 at Salt Lake City.

Edwina Brown made four free throws in the final 14 seconds for the Shock. Astou Ndiaye-Diatta led the Shock with 18 points, and Oksana Zakauluzhnaya added 15 on six-for-nine shooting.

“I can’t stand to lose, so that’s the hard part,” Azzi said. “But it felt good to be out on the court.”
