Mittermeier Hits the Road

Share

* Did Jan Mittermeier do a good job as CEO of Orange County? Absolutely. I know of no reason to question the reports in The Times that were complimentary of her work in handling bankruptcy matters. I still believe that she was guilty of gross negligence in failing to prepare the county for the possibility of Measure F’s victory.

The day after the vote, supervisors could not take any actions on major items on their agenda because of the lack of legal interpretation of the new law. That, in my view, was a major gaffe of the CEO and was reason enough for dismissal. The county was in limbo for days while the executive staff and counsel got together and determined what actions could and could not be taken. Those actions should have taken place the day after Measure F qualified for the ballot.

In my work experience, I have seen department managers and supervisors dismissed for less and can assure you that they did not walk away with a salary and benefits package.
