The City Council will meet today to discuss whether to stop the Police Department’s DUI checkpoint program.
Councilman Paul Freeman, who objects to the checkpoints as an infringement on civil liberties, placed the item on the agenda.
The city has been participating in a two-year, state-sponsored checkpoint program, funded by a $90,000 grant to fund the monthly checkpoints. The grant runs out in December.
The council will also hold a public hearing on its proposed sewage rate increases of 13.6% over the next three years. Rates have not increased since July 1994, according to a staff report.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 505 Forest Ave. Information: (949) 497-3311.
