Postal Service Scores High for Promptness, Satisfaction

Share

The area’s postal system earned its highest score to date on a recent independent service audit, the U.S. Postal Service said this week.

The survey, conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, found that first-class letters sent within the 900 ZIP Code area to another address in the area arrived the next day 95% of the time. That is a two-point improvement over last year’s next-day delivery rate.

The 95% mark also puts the area a bit ahead of the rest of the nation; the national average for next-day delivery was 94%, auditors found. The survey was conducted between Feb. 26 and May 19.

In another recent survey, 84% of Los Angeles-area residents said they were satisfied with the postal service. The customer satisfaction survey was conducted by the Gallup Organization, which found that 92% of customers across the nation rated the service good or better.

Los Angeles Postmaster Kerry Wolny said he has taken several steps to improve residential customers’ satisfaction, including hearing residents’ complaints at town hall meetings and placing service representatives in post office lobbies.
