Title: “Tournament Week”

Author: John Strege

Publisher: Cliff Street Books ($24).

Can’t get enough of Tiger Woods? Don’t know a courtesy car from a rent-a-wreck? Never heard Nick Faldo say a single funny thing?

If you answered yes to any of the preceding questions, we’ve got some good news for you. Strege, a veteran golf writer who wrote a Woods biography, has come through with an inside look at what the PGA Tour is all about, but seldom reveals of itself.

For instance, here’s a question: A Citation is (A) a type of jet; (B) a parking ticket; (C) French for “site.”

The answer later.

Woods is a prominent figure in the book and not only is his photo on the cover, but anecdotes on golf’s reigning superstar abound. One is about how Woods selects tournaments to play, revolving around a comment from a former Bob Hope Chrysler Classic tournament director who lamented the fact that Woods would play in Thailand and ignore the Hope event in spite of Hope’s advancing age.

(Editor’s note: Woods has never--and likely will never--play the Bob Hope).

As for Faldo’s legendary undeveloped sense of humor, Strege unearths a quote from Faldo about what Woods’ presence has meant on the PGA Tour. Said Faldo: “He hasn’t given me any presents.”

If you would like a presence on the PGA Tour, consider this book your working press credential (an oxymoron if ever there was one.)

And, P.S., a Citation is a jet. Tiger’s is a Citation X.
