Crew Has an Easy Night, 4-1

Dante Washington and Brian West scored two goals apiece to lead Columbus over New England, 4-1, in front of 12,998 at Columbus, Ohio, Wednesday night.

The Crew (8-10-4) defeated the Revolution (7-8-5) for the sixth consecutive time and is 15-3 against New England.

Washington, who has 13 goals this season, scored twice within six minutes. His first goal came in the 43rd minute on an assist from Robert Warzycha. The second came in the 49th minute off a Jeff Cunningham assist.

West scored his fifth goal of the season in the 74th from John Wilmar Perez. A penalty kick by John Harkes in the 80th made it 3-1. West closed the scoring in the 89th off a Roland Aguilera pass.

Tampa Bay 2, Washington 2--The Mutiny and D.C. United played to an overtime tie in front of 13,327 at Washington, dealing another blow to United’s faint playoff hopes.

All four goals were scored in the first half.

Steve Trittschuh and Steve Ralston scored for the Mutiny (11-9-1), which moved into first place in the Central Division. Raul Diaz Arce and Jaime Moreno scored for United (4-13-6).

Longtime marketing executive Timothy J. Luce was hired as general manager and vice president of business operations of the Galaxy, replacing Sergio del Prado, who resigned last month. Luce, 40, will be in charge of the Galaxy’s strategic marketing, community development and media plans. Coach and vice president of soccer operations Sigi Schmid will continue to be responsible for player personnel matters.
