Injury to Girl Mars 13th Stage
A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured Friday when she was hit by a publicity car in the Tour de France caravan, police said.
The driver lost control of his vehicle on the winding road of the 115-mile 13th stage from Avignon to Draguignan in Provence.
The girl was flown to a hospital in Marseille with a broken leg and concussion and her condition was described as serious.
A second spectator was hit by another car 43 miles farther down the course but suffered only minor injuries.
A television motorcycle also tipped over as its rider tried to avoid French competitor Francois Simon, who had crashed. No one was seriously injured in the incident.
