Development of Drive-In Property

Share

* As longtime residents of Ventura, we are fortunate enough to live above Telegraph Road, where we do not have any worry of a Home Depot store coming to our neighborhood.

Our sympathy and concerns go to the residents near the old 101 Drive-In, where Home Depot wants to build their big lumberyard “home improvement” warehouse. Of course the developer, along with Home Depot, might rationalize this by saying these people should not have purchased their homes nearby or across the street from a commercially zoned area.

What we say about that is that this was a drive-in movie location for as long as we can remember. When those homes were first built and sold, were the buyers informed back then that a huge warehouse may be built across the street?

How many people remember the scene in the movie, “On the Waterfront” with Marlon Brando, where he is sitting in the car and says to his brother, “You should have looked out for me, Charlie.”

Well, we expect the Ventura City Council to be responsible and look out for those residents now.
