It’s a Hit!
3.1 ... The number of plate appearances a batter must have per game his team plays to qualify for a batting title.
7 ... The record for most hits in a single game. On Sept. 16, 1975, Pittsburgh Pirate second baseman Rennie Stennett had four singles, two doubles and a triple in consecutive at-bats.
257 ... The record for most hits in a single season. St. Louis Brown George Sisler, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1939, set it in 1920.
3,000 ... The number of career hits for Pittsburgh Pirate Roberto Clemente, the only player to finish with that number. The final hit of his career came on Sept. 20, 1972. That December, Clemente died in a plane crash while bringing food, clothing and medical supplies to earthquake-torn Nicaragua.
