Efforts to develop the city’s first General Plan got underway this week with city leaders putting a priority on getting suggestions from residents.

The Laguna Woods General Plan Coordinating Committee, a group of about two dozen appointed local leaders, met Wednesday to discuss the process of creating the document and how to ensure residents’ ideas are included.

Group members discussed the possibility of mailing surveys to get comments on what should be in the plan, which will include long-term goals and policies for handling development, traffic and other city concerns. The plan also has to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act.
