SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
The No Home Depot Committee has hired an attorney to investigate allegations that the city has violated more federal wetlands regulations than previously cited by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Army Corps of Engineers in 1996 determined that the city had disturbed about 1.9 acres of wetlands on the Lower Rosan Ranch, but the No Home Depot Committee believes the city has removed trees and has continued to stockpile dirt in additional wetland area.
Committee members said the 13-acre property west of Camino Capistrano and north of Stonehill Drive had a stream and pond before the city began grading the site in 1993.
