SAN CLEMENTE
The City Council will consider an ordinance making it illegal for anyone other than authorized personnel to remove temporary signs from the city’s public rights of way.
Lt. Fred Lisanti, chief of police services, reported at the July 5 council meeting that vandalism and thefts involving temporary signs like election posters and garage sale notices have increased in the past two years.
San Clemente code prohibits these signs from being placed in the city’s rights of way, but there is no law limiting who can remove signs that violate the code.
The council meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 100 Avenida Presidio.
