The Dodgers today might move closer to remaining at Dodgertown for spring training when Vero Beach, Fla., officials review a $20-million proposal to improve the sprawling complex.

A “memorandum of understanding,” outlining a plan to purchase Dodgertown from the Dodgers and lease it to them after the make-over, will be presented to county commissioners and city council members. They are expected to sign the agreement within two weeks, and the Dodgers plan to sign too.

That would be another step toward keeping the Dodgers at their spring-training home of more than 50 years, but it would not finalize the process.

Although it appears the Dodgers will return to Vero Beach, a proposed multiteam facility Las Vegas remains under consideration.

Dodger Chairman Bob Daly and team President Bob Graziano adjusted their timetable to make a decision because Las Vegas officials made an 11th-hour run to persuade the Dodgers to move there.

“We’ve decided not to rush into the decision in Florida,” said Derrick Hall, senior vice president.

“Before we do make a final decision, we’re going to reexamine all aspects of the Las Vegas proposal. “While that might delay our timetable even longer, we feel it’s necessary to make the right choice.”
