The Yard House restaurant will not be coming to Kaleidoscope, even after a City Council decision made to lure new businesses to the mall.

Donald Paskewitz, senior vice president for Kaleidoscope developer Samsung Pacific Construction, petitioned the Planning Commission in April to allow an increase in the number of signs at the mall to inform the community about the shops and restaurants and to help lure prospective tenants.

The commission denied the proposal, but Samsung appealed to the City Council, which on June 19 approved an unspecified increase in the number of signs at the mall.

Despite the city’s yielding, Yard House has decided against opening in Kaleidoscope and is possibly pursuing a location at the Irvine Spectrum, Paskewitz said.
