Residents Nominated to City Commissions

Mayor Richard Riordan has named several Valley residents and leaders as nominees to city commissions. The full City Council must confirm the candidates.

* Bill Ehrlich, executive vice president of the Larwin Co., an Encino real estate development firm, was nominated for the Building and Safety Commission for the term ending June 30, 2002. Ehrlich is a member of the American Arbitration Assn., the National Assn. of Home Builders and the Building Industry Assn.

The Building and Safety Commission hears appeals related to the city’s building and safety department and enforcement of the city building code.

* David Fleming, an attorney at Latham and Watkins and chair of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, is being renominated to the Fire Commission for a term ending June 30, 2005.

The Fire Commission sets policy for the Fire Department, presides over brush clearance appeals, approves fire contracts, and sets and regulates inspection fees.

* Mary Louise Longoria, a consultant to the county Human Relations commission, has been nominated to the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners for a term ending June 30, 2005. Longoria is a northeast Valley resident.

The Board of Neighborhood Commissioners will be responsible for the neighborhood councils being created by City Charter reform. The board will set policy to make government more responsive to local needs and citizen input.
