Summerall to Quit--in 2002
Pat Summerall has pinpointed when he will retire from broadcasting. It will be after he calls the 2002 Super Bowl for Fox with longtime partner John Madden.
According to a source, Summerall, 69, will make the announcement today while in Los Angeles attending a seminar for Fox’s NFL broadcasters.
By the time he retires, Summerall will have been in broadcasting 50 years. He got into the business when he was a kicker for the Chicago Cardinals in 1952. He became a full-time broadcaster in 1961, and has been paired with Madden since 1981. Summerall and Madden have been at Fox since 1994.
