$250,000 Grant Aims to Boost Tourism

Ventura County will receive a $250,000 tourism-related grant to rebuild rail lines between Piru and Rancho Camulos, as well as add bicycle paths and walkways, Supervisor Kathy Long said Monday.
Rancho Camulos, which was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior, inspired the fictional site where the heroine and her lover met in the 19th century Helen Hunt Jackson novel “Ramona.”
The grant, state money distributed by the California Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation Program, is part of a tourism improvement goal set by Long for the Heritage Valley, said her spokeswoman, Mary Ann Krause. Long is a member of the board of directors for the Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau.
The latest grant will combine with others to address the issue. “They are all pieces of the tourism puzzle,” Krause said.
