A parking policy updated by the City Council this month continues to spark debate among council members and residents.
Councilman Wayne Eggleston said at a recent council meeting that he wanted pedestrians to be able to walk on a sidewalk “side by side” without having to step into the street to get around an obstruction, such as a car parked in a driveway.
However, several residents, many of whom live on Avenida Victoria, spoke out against the policy. Because the street has such short driveways, some residents have taken to parking their cars halfway inside open garages or sideways on their driveways to avoid being cited, according to photographs shown at the council meeting.
