The installation of storm drain filters is expected to be complete by mid-August, city Public Works Director Robert Warren said.

The filters are aimed at reducing harmful urban runoff. United Stormwater Inc. is installing Drainpac filters, which catch large debris such as leaves, gum wrappers and bottles.

The company also is installing fossil filters, which are designed to catch gasoline and oil, along with debris.

More than 150 Drainpac filters had been installed by Tuesday, Warren said. The filters and their installation are expected to cost $200,000 to $250,000.
