The developer of a group of large blue commercial buildings at Lambert Road and Pointe Drive is appealing the city’s method of assessing the amount new projects should spend on public art.

The city requires developers to spend 1% of the value of their projects on public art displays. Representatives of Olen Properties have said the two parking structures included in their commercial project should be left out of the equation used to determine how much it should pay.

Olen Properties last week appealed Brea’s method of calculating art fees, but council members said they needed more time to examine the issue before voting to change the Art in Public Places program.
