The Flamingo Adult Theater, an all-nude, no-alcohol club on Beach Boulevard, plans to open its doors Friday, said Randy Garrou, an attorney representing the club.

Last week, Talbert and Beach Inc., the club’s owners, cleared final inspections to operate the business, said Ross Cranmer, the city’s director of building and safety.

Several dancers have applied for city permits to perform at sex-oriented businesses, a requirement for performing at the club, but only one has been granted a permit, Garrou said.

The club has been trying to open since June at 18121 Beach Blvd. If it succeeds, it would be the first business in Huntington Beach to provide live nude entertainment. Patrons must be at least 18 years old.

But it could be forced to shut its doors only a few days later because the City Council voted 7 to 0 last week to approve the first reading of an ordinance prohibiting nudity in all public places, including bars and restaurants.

The council is expected to take a final vote on the ordinance Aug. 7.

The Flamingo could skirt the ordinance by having scantily clad dancers instead of totally nude ones.
