IRVINE
Irvine police are hunting for a mysterious glitch in their link with the company operating video cameras designed to catch red-light runners at Alton Parkway and Muirlands Boulevard.
Police have been mailing warnings in lieu of tickets to drivers caught speeding through red lights at the intersection since the camera began operating nearly two months ago. Officials have twice extended the original 30-day grace period as technicians try to find the source of the problem, which involves communicating with courts.
Irvine traffic Sgt. Denny Jenner said the department is pleased with the performance of the camera and will end the grace period as soon as the problem is solved.
