Library appointment--Jane Lowenthal, 45, of Northridge, has been appointed to the state’s Library Board. Her name was incorrect in a story Thursday.

Lowenthal runs her own arbitration and mediation services business. She serves on several boards, including the Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center, Habitat for Humanity and the United Nations Assn.

“This ranks among the greatest honors I’ve been accorded,” she said. “It allows me to use my interests in literacy in giving children the opportunity to see a larger world.”

Villaraigosa said Lowenthal’s expertise in problem-solving will work to the library board’s favor.

“That talent will be especially helpful in addressing the policies and funding needs of our libraries and the critical services they provide to our children and families,” he added.

Gov. Gray Davis appoints nine board members, while the Assembly speaker and Senate Rules Committee each appoints two.
