LAGUNA BEACH

The trek from Los Angeles to San Francisco is long enough in a car, but Laguna Beach resident Paul Goldie does it on a bicycle. Goldie is gearing up for his third such pedal trip Sunday. The venture is not just exercise or a physical challenge; it’s to raise money for AIDS organizations.

This year’s trip is not only for the many who have died of AIDS Goldie will also dedicate ride to his sister, Laurie Ackley, who died of a heart attack Dec. 31. He hopes to raise more than $5,000 that will go to the event sponsors, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Gay and Lesbian Center of Los Angeles.

Last year, 3,000 riders raised $11 million in the seventh annual AIDSRide, sponsored by Tanqueray. To make a donation in Goldie’s name, visit https://www.aidsride.org/learn/donation.asp or e-mail him at thegoldie@msn.com.
