Report of Teens in Fumigated House False

Share

A team of deputies, firefighters and hazardous materials specialists responded to a house Thursday after receiving a report that two teens had crawled under a tented house that was being fumigated.

No one was found inside the single-family home near the intersection of Vincente and Ciprian avenues, and authorities now believe neighbors who reported the matter may have only seen the kids wandering near the home.

“We went inside and there was nobody there,” said Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Michael Noguera.

When county firefighters arrived about 3:35 p.m. they inspected the bottom of the tent to see where the teens could have entered but found nothing. A hazardous materials specialist in protective gear also searched the home and found no one.

Ingestion of sulfuryl fluoride, which is commonly used to kill termites, can be fatal, authorities said.
