Adult Drug Court to Hold Reunion
A county court program that helps drug addicts kick the habit will hold its annual reunion of graduates Thursday in Ventura.
Adult Drug Court, a drug-addiction education and monitoring program run by Ventura County Superior Court, has enrolled about 400 participants in its five years and has graduated almost half, court officials said.
In order to graduate from the yearlong program, participants must pass periodic drug tests, attend meetings and search for a job, said Robert Sherman, deputy executive officer of the Superior Court.
“You have to stick that year out,” he said. “A lot of people just can’t do it. . . . It’s a big commitment.”
Besides offering a drug-free social opportunity for program graduates, Sherman said the reunion gives program directors a better idea of its long-term effects.
“This is a big test,” he said. “If these people have stayed clean, they are more than willing to attend.”
The drug court reunion will be held at 11 a.m. in the Lower Plaza Assembly Room at the Hall of Administration.
