Funding for Libraries

When I read of this proposal my first reaction was, “Why not specify that amount instead to go to our libraries?” On second thought, I realized that sum would only be a drop in the bucket to each individual library throughout the state.

We have a good possibility to initiate a trust fund that would provide a steady source of income to increase the hours at the Avenue Library. Avenue residents and others interested in our library could donate all or part of their tax refund to this trust fund. Then if the Ventura City Council would match that amount, and even a few other establishments would donate a substantial amount, our little library could be open enough hours to meet the needs of the community.

I am urging our legislators to join the governor in passing this tax refund proposal. It would be great also, if some of the Sacramento surplus could be redirected back to counties and cities to be used at their discretion to address local needs.
