Bone Sculpture Would Be Travesty

* Re “Some Would Prefer Whale Art Beached,” May 22:

I can’t imagine what is in the minds of the Huntington Beach City Council, which has approved a beach statue of whale bones.

A commemoration of the long and fairly systematic slaughter of these magnificent and intelligent creatures?

Why not a statue of a human skeleton, since plenty of them have been killed as well?

I couldn’t even look calmly at the photograph of the whale bone statue. Were it to be erected I would try never to go to that part of the beach.
