A group of residents has started a petition drive to stop city officials from rerouting the Heritage Parade from the south side of the city to the north.
Officials recently announced the Heritage Festival would be moved from Kraemer Park to the larger recreation area at Tri-City Park. That required a change in the parade route--a decision that quickly brought about opposition from south side residents, who think the parade’s 35-year tradition should remain intact.
“Once they move [the parade], they’re dividing the city,” said Laura Olea, a resident who along with five others decided to begin the petition drive. “There’s certain things you just can’t move.”
