Caterpillar Inc. will be allowed to sell its own brand of toys, shoes and other merchandise at a farm attraction it is sponsoring in Walt Disney Co.’s new California Adventure park, Caterpillar spokeswoman Rachele Kunz says.

Usually, only Disney merchandise is sold at the park.

Though unusual, the arrangement with Caterpillar is not without precedent: A Mattel Inc. toy shop sits outside the It’s a Small World attraction, which Mattel sponsors at Disneyland, notes park historian Dave “Mouse Tales” Koenig.

California Adventure opens in February, with the Caterpillar corporate sponsorship running for 10 years.
