Jakks Gets Licensing Deal on ‘Harry Potter’

Malibu-based toy maker Jakks Pacific Inc. won a licensing agreement from Warner Bros. to make activity sets and other toys featuring characters from the blockbuster “Harry Potter” children’s book series. Terms of the agreement with Jakks’s Flying Colors division, which also produces themed jewelry-making and art studio kits, were not disclosed. Mattel Inc. won the rights to most other toy types connected to the works of author J.K. Rowling in February. The books have sold nearly 20 million copies in the U.S. and will be the subject of a fall 2001 film from Warner Bros. Jakks shares rose $1.56 to close at $16.81 on Nasdaq.
