Civic Arts Plaza Development
* The Thousand Oaks City Council is considering a proposed development at the Civic Arts Plaza consisting of a 10- to 12-screen theater, three or four restaurants, a three-story office building and a 1.5-acre lake.
Has the City Council even thought about other projects that are needed and of interest to the citizens in this city? The only thing we don’t have is a 1.5-acre fake lake, the most ridiculous use of this property. I thought that this land was to be developed as a special addition to the plaza, not just another commercial development.
One needed facility in this city is an adequate bowling alley for adults and children as well. There are few cities our size that don’t have a bowling alley. Simi Valley has two such establishments, both of which are busy, successful enterprises. There are hundreds of children using these facilities.
The City Council will offer the public an opportunity to express opinions in a hearing later this month, a last chance before the council votes on the project. I urge you to make your comments to the council before this land is just turned into another retail outlet.
