Long Campaigns

Share

* It is five months before the presidential election and the campaigns drone on. Is anyone besides political pundits really listening to the candidates at this point? After two years, we already know who they are and have fairly good ideas of what they stand for. We may find out more at the conventions this summer and during debates in the fall.

Both George W. Bush and Al Gore have jobs for which the citizens elected them. They would do us all a favor and help both us and themselves avoid Bush-Gore fatigue if they went back to work in Austin and Washington, respectively. Each can have his moment in the sun at the convention. Then they should both take vacations until the day after Labor Day. At that time, we and they will be ready for a real campaign.
