Ex-Club Owner Pleads Not Guilty in ’81 Slayings

Former Hollywood nightclub owner Eddie Nash pleaded not guilty Monday to federal racketeering charges, including allegations that he ordered the 1981 slayings of four people in a Laurel Canyon drug den.

The 71-year-old Nash, who is in poor health, was tried in the murder cases twice in state court. A jury deadlocked in one trial and acquitted him in the second one.

Authorities believe the four victims were killed in retaliation for the theft of $2 million worth of drugs, cash and jewelry from Nash’s home.

In addition to allegedly ordering the slayings, Nash is accused of bribing a juror in one trial and trafficking in narcotics over a 25-year period.

He has been held without bail since his arrest last month.
